What we think and believe about ourselves and our abilities can have a huge impact on our lives. I've seen this principle play out in my life time and time again. Whenever I've set a goal for myself and truly believed that I could achieve it, the stars would line up and it would happen. Whether it was landing the promotion or job title that I wanted, attaining a certification, finding love after a soul-crushing divorce, or even something as simple as learning how to cook a new dish. My belief in myself and my abilities has led to some success.
However, the flip side of this is also true. There have been countless times in which I did NOT believe in myself or my abilities and things would just flat-out not work. Belief doesn't come easy, especially in these times when you feel stuck and powerless. In those moments, it can be hard to remember the power of belief and it's just easier to settle for less or give up. I can't emphasize how many times I've given up and quit.
But here's the thing: I've come to realize that belief is a choice. It's a decision that we make every day, in every moment. We can choose to believe in ourselves or not. When we choose to believe in ourselves and have faith in our abilities, we create a powerful energy that can propel us forward toward our goals.
This energy is the source that gives us the strength to take action because unfortunately, belief alone is not enough. When we believe in ourselves, we are more likely to take that first step, even if it feels scary or uncertain. We are more likely to push ourselves beyond our limits, try new things, and take risks. This is the sweet spot where we gain the momentum that can carry us toward our goal.
The most powerful aspect of belief is the way it transforms our mindset. When we believe that we can achieve something, we adopt a growth mindset that is focused on learning and growth rather than failure and defeat. We see setbacks and obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as evidence that we can't succeed. We become more resilient, more confident, and more capable of achieving our goals.
If you're struggling with believing in yourself and your abilities, know that you have the power to change that. It starts with a choice, a decision to believe in yourself and your potential. From there, take action, seek out support and resources, and keep pushing forward, even when it feels hard.
When you believe that you can, you will. And the possibilities for your life are endless.
Reality Check: It was me, I needed to hear it.
