“I was smart enough to go through any door that opened.”
– Joan Rivers -
Everyone has little regrets in their lives. I mean, it is your first day of living today and how could you be perfect? There are times I wish I had someone telling me that life is not over after your 20s. In fact, it is actually the beginning and gets more exciting. Over time, I’ve learned that the 20s is a good time to experience the world and meet many people. It’s all about finding what you are interested in or what you are good at. It’s amazing to see how people live everyday life in their own way. No one is perfect and nobody can live a perfect life. I thought it would be a great idea to share some of the things I wish I knew in my 20s.
- You will get hurt by people
Whether it's your close friends, co-workers, or random people walking down the street, there are times you will get hurt by their actions or words. It took me a while to learn, and yet, still learning to just let it go. Hurt, pain, and rejection are part of human life and it's important to not take it personally and move on. The way people treat you is not about me, it’s about them. So, don't let that hurt feeling turn you down.
- Don’t worry, everything is going to be okay
I spent most of my 20s with fear and anxiety. I was worried in all aspects of my life like career, finance, expectations, marriage, kids, family, and more. I came up with a solution to just embrace it. I mean, how bad could it be? If I'm not financially stable, I will work harder. If I'm not married, what's wrong with that? Everyone has their own path in their lives, so just enjoy it. This is all part of living your life.
- Say ‘No’
Oftentimes, I see people trying to impress others or take their burden of life when it's not their responsibility. If you want a happier life, you need to put yourself first before others. If you don't want to, say 'no' and if you're not sure, tell them you need more time to think. After all, it is your life and not others. It's hard at first but practicing helps. Be strong and believe in yourself. You know what's best for you.
- Be Patient
Success or happiness doesn't happen in just few days. If it was that easy, why isn't everyone successful and happy? It is all about the long-term. You need to learn how to go slowly but surely. Be consistent and just keep going without thinking. One day, you will realize how far you have come and how proud you are of yourself.
There are some things that you just need to experience and learn over time. Sometimes, it can't be taught by someone else. But I thought it would be good to have my thoughts out there for anyone who needs to hear this. What are some of the things you wish you knew?
